21st Century Literature
Kristian Sendon CORDERO (poet, fiction writer, essayist, translator, filmmaker; Philippines) writes in Filipino, Bikol and Rinconada, and has translated Borges, Kafka, Wilde and Rilke to these languages. Two of his most recent poetry collections received the 2014 National Book Awards; his debut collection of poetry in his three respective languages won the Madrigal-Gonzales Best First Book Award in 2006. He is the deputy director of the Ateneo de Naga University Press. His participation is courtesy of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs at the U.S. Department of State.

He produced important pieces on the Spanish Civil War(Canciones para después de una guerra), the famous dictator (Caudillo), or his executioners (Queridísimos verdugos). He also produced fiction (Nueve cartas a Berta, Octavia). He's done excellent works on the fake documentary category, developing the possibilities of the medium. His interest on ancient and modern film technologies has got him involved on a huge collection of magic lanterns and zootropes, and to the early adoption of video technologies, as the new digital tools, as 3D image and offline editing.
Learnings: The poem is all about the life of the Filipinos during the time of Marcos that we need to value and give recommendation to it. Its all about the learning and realization that we get in the poem that we can use in moving forward to the present day and furture.

She is a performer and a writer. She completed her Bachelor of Arts in Aquinas University Legazpi City. This text was published year 2012 I learned that poverty is not the reason for us to give up. we have to continue fighting.
Learnings: The story shows how unemployment and poverty greatly affects the situation of the family, particularly if the father is the one that is unemployed. The father in the story lost his pride and ability to speak for himself. He lost it all due to the reason that he has no work and no longer can support and contribute to his family financially. He has no more confidence to share his own views and opinions and looked down by his’ own children.

Fernando Maramag was an excellent poet and journalist in English. He had a rich style and deep understanding of human nature – qualities which made his poetry appealing to all
readers. On the other hand, his editorial writings “exerted great influence on the various phases of the Filipino way of life, particularly in its government, economics, education and politics,”
according to a critic.
Learnings: I learned that sometimes people met together but not destined to each other.

The Safe House
Sandra Nicole Roldan
Sandra Nicole Roldan, who wrote the Safe House, is a teacher of literature and creative writing at the University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City. She earned her degree in Creative Writing at the same school. Apart from winning the Philippine Free Press literary award for essay, she is also recognized by both local and international writing fellowships.
Learnings: The little girl innocence shielded her from knowing the truth, or what reality is. it is about the marcos time. We should be careful and don't easily trust other people.
